Celebrating Success and Inclusion: Life Directions Employment at the South Grey Chamber of Commerce Business Gala Awards
On the evening of October 17, 2024, the South Grey Chamber of Commerce Business Gala Awards brought together businesses, leaders, and community members to celebrate excellence and recognize those making significant contributions to the community. The event was filled with energy, celebrating the values of inclusivity, growth, and commitment to our shared future.
Life Directions Employment had the privilege of not only attending but also sponsoring the prestigious Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Award. We were especially proud to see the award go to Markdale Flowers, a local business that has been a consistent advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in all areas of their operations.
Owned by the inspiring Kimberly Lewis, Markdale Flowers stands as a shining example of how businesses can champion EDI while continuing to thrive and contribute to the community. Kimberly's leadership and dedication to fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment for both her staff and customers earned her this well-deserved recognition.
In attendance from Life Directions Employment were Monica Singh Soares (Business Engagement Specialist) and Cristin O'Sullivan (Coordinator), who joined Kimberly in celebrating her win. The image of the three standing together captures the spirit of collaboration that drives initiatives like DEI forward in our communities.

As the EDI Award Sponsor, we at Life Directions Employment were honored to play a key role in recognizing the incredible work that businesses like Markdale Flowers do to promote diversity and inclusion. This award symbolizes our shared commitment to building workplaces where everyone, regardless of background or ability, has the opportunity to thrive.
The Gala also marked another important milestone—Brightshores Health System became the first hospital network to participate in Light It Up for NDEAM (National Disability Employment Awareness Month). This year’s gala was not only a celebration of business success but also an important platform for highlighting how inclusive hiring and DEI can transform workplaces and communities.
At Life Directions Employment, we continue to work closely with local businesses to explore how inclusive hiring practices can foster growth, success, and stronger community ties. Our mission of transforming abilities into career opportunities aligns perfectly with the values that the EDI Award represents.
We encourage all businesses to join us in championing diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace and beyond. The success stories shared at the gala are a testament to the power of inclusivity in building a better future for all.
