On July 25, Life Directions Employment went with 6 Job Seekers to Hope Haven Therapeutic Riding Centre! We want to give a huge thank you to Gretel, the Hope Haven Program Co-ordinator who hosted us, and Robyn, the Hope Haven Director of Operations.
Gretel was able to give Job Seekers a great look into the different types of volunteer positions that are available and the different processes that Hope Haven uses to keep track of the work that needs to be done. They have an amazing system in place to track the horses, their meals and health, grooming schedules, hay delivery... They are very passionate about the horses and the programming they run, and have created systems to make sure everything runs smoothly. Their aim is to spend as much time and energy on the horses as possible, so workers don't need to do a lot of administration.
Some of the volunteer positions include:
- Grooming and Feeding the horses
- General Farm Labour
- Helping with Deliveries
- Farrier/Shoeing Horses Training
- A Call for Blacksmithing Apprentices!
Even if you didn't participate in the mentorship, if you are interested in working at Hope Haven in a volunteer summer position, please connect with your career advisor. Hope Haven is a very beautiful and calm space and would be an amazing experience for anyone looking to get into the Equine World. The team there is so supportive of each other and is a very welcoming environment.
