DISABILITY PRIDE MONTH
Disability Pride Month is celebrated annually during July to raise awareness and promote the inclusion of people with disabilities. The purpose of the month is to encourage individuals with disabilities to take pride in their identity, recognize their contributions, and advocate for their rights. Let's celebrate DISABILITY PRIDE MONTH and be inclusive of people with disabilities during this month. There are many things that we can do. Firstly, we can attend events or programs, either online or in person, that are designed explicitly for Disability Pride Month.

Additionally, we can create awareness by sharing our own stories, learning about others' experiences, and advocating for change. It's important to remember that people with disabilities come from diverse backgrounds and have various challenges and abilities. Therefore, we can celebrate Disability Pride Month by promoting inclusivity and accessibility, breaking down barriers, and treating individuals with disabilities with respect and dignity.

Mentorship Corner
Josie Kells enjoyed a few hours of being a mentee at the Markdale Foodland bakery, expanding her knowledge in baking and decorating.

Josie learned various techniques, including how to effectively ice cakes and cupcakes, make stunning flowers out of icing and create other decorative elements to add to her cakes.

Josie's eagerness to learn and determination to improve helped her achieve substantial progress in a short amount of time.

Her time spent in the bakery demonstrates the significant value of mentorships in providing aspiring bakers with tools for success.

Thank you Markdale Foodland for the wonderful opportunity.

Blue Mountain Ski Resort

The mentorship day trip to Blue Mountain ski resort gave mentees a unique opportunity to explore the different positions available within the resort. The mentees learned about job responsibilities, requirements, and qualifications for various positions, including ticket sales, rentals, lift operators, and snowboard instructors. They also had the chance to meet and talk with other employees and gain valuable insights into what they can expect working at the resort. The mentees were treated to lunch by BMR, which allowed them to network with resort employees and make connections that could help them secure employment in the future. The day's highlight came when they rode the gondola to the top of the mountain and enjoyed stunning views of the surrounding landscape. This immersive learning experience provided mentees with valuable information about how to apply for jobs at the resort and demonstrated the importance of networking and making connections in the industry. Next Month we will follow up with the 1-1 mentorships that followed this event and job placements.
